Fan Death - Veronica's Veil - Phantasy Sounds

In the never-ending search for the next big thing, the masses of the blog illuminati have recently stumbled upon a Vancouver based femme two-piece by the name of Fan Death. Named after a South Korean superstition concerning the fear that electric fans "if left running overnight in a closed room, can cause the death (by suffocation, poisoning, or hypothermia) of those inside", the lovely duo has just released their first single titled "Veronica's Veil". The single is packaged with an extended re-work by London based producer/dj/tastemaker, Erol Alkan, and drops courtesy of his label, Phantasy Sounds.

According to their bio, they've set out "to make music that recalls the greatest era of electronic pop; stuff like Depeche Mode, OMD, Alphaville, New Order, Human League, Soft Cell and some Pet Shop Boys. Great songs that happened to be electronic, not soulless repetitious club music that seems to dominate these days."

"Veronica's Veil" (so named for the holy relic) is a masterfully crafted piece of disco-pop with distinctly strained vocals countered by lush strings in the vein of contemporaries such as Glass Candy. Likewise, their identities have been shrouded in mystery, helping to fuel blog-hysteria that'll inevitably help their cause (see Fake Blood). Are they the next Crystal Castles? MGMT? You heard it here first.

bingo... the secret's out of the bag now-- but the pr for the band straight out of the gate was trying to keep it a secret as not to detract from the push for dandi wind's new material
